#  When the gun goes, break for the front so that you won't be pushed and shoved to the back. It is important to get a good starting position in the 800m as the race is too short to make up for mistakes. Run strong for the first 250m. If there is a pack or a few people getting in front of you, run on their shoulder and go at their pace if you can. This way you will have energy for the end. Be careful of going too slow as this can give a lot of weaker runners the opportunity for a sprint finish. Take the lead if necessary going into the first lap [[Image:Choose Comfortable Walking Shoes Step 7.jpg|center]]

#  At the last lap, start to push a little faster, especially the third 200m which is a very hard point of the race. If the pack begins to go, stay with them at all cost. If you are leading make sure people aren't bunching up behind you, keep the pace strong[[Image:Consistently Run if You're Overweight Step 6.jpg|center]]
